Support Request: Rendering slow with youtube

Description

Hello,
I am trying to setup a kiosk with payment system to unlock the station (so I must use IE). The problem is that rendering is slow with for example youtube, almost unusable. This slowness is not happening outside SiteKiosk. How can this be fixed ? The system is a Gen 6 i5 Intel Processor with integrated graphics.

Thank you,
Martin Demin

Hello,

The IE based skins are using the IE Webbrowser Control of the installed Internet Explorer.
So you may first check directly in IE11 on that system.
Alternatively you may even check if the web page works flawlessly when using directly in IE Webbrowser Control.
You can find further Information and a download link to a test application in this PDF:

Generally, there is only one setting in SiteKiosk that determines whether GPU acceleration is used or not. The rest is up to the IE Webbrowser Control and the graphics card driver.

If necessary, first check if GPU acceleration is enabled (GPU acceleration is enabled by default)..
For this you can open the configuration file you created (e.g. ...\SiteKiosk\Config\YourConfig.skcfg) with an editor (e.g. Notepad) and look for the following line:

<ie9-gpu-rendering enabled="true" />

If it is not enabled (<ie9-gpu-rendering enabled="false" />) you should enable it (<ie9-gpu-rendering enabled="true" />).
After the change, start SiteKiosk twice because the setting will be set in the registry when SiteKiosk is started.
NOTE:
Due to the Windows User Account Control (UAC), you may have to start the editor as administrator (right mouse--->Run as administrator) to be able to save the changes in the Programs directory.

If GPU acceleration is already enabled (as it is by default), you should test again after installing the latest graphics card driver from the Intel vendor site.
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/

Otherwise you could check if it works better if you disable the use of the GPU.
Open the configuration file you created (e.g. ...\SiteKiosk\Config\YourConfig.skcfg) with an editor (e.g. Notepad) and look for the following line:

<ie9-gpu-rendering enabled="true" />

Change the value from true to false

<ie9-gpu-rendering enabled="false" />

When you are using Wifi you should also update to the most current SiteKiosk Version where we fixed a problem with Wifi performance when using the Wifi status icon.

The IE outside SiteKiosk works flawlessly. As you see inside SiteKiosk it is VERY slow.

Hello,

You first should update to the most current SiteKiosk Version where we fixed a problem with Wifi performance when using the Wifi status icon.

Alternatively you can deactivate the Wifi icon in the task bar (SiteKiosk configuration>Start Page & Browser>Customize>Taskbar – disable "Display WiFi information in the taskbar")

But in my test the YouTube pages are also a bit slower in Internet Explorer 11 than in Chrome (in your test you have used Chromium Edge. To check in IE11 you ned to disable the redirect to from IE11 to edge https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/163941-turn-off-let-internet-explorer-open-sites-microsoft-edge.html). It seems that the You Tube pages are not fully supported in IE11 anymore.
