Support Request: udp shutdown

Description

Dear Support,
I posted a question last Friday but did not receive feedback on this. I cannot find the ticket either nor received a email about the ticket being submitted. I use a program that recieves a UDP network message to shutdown the computer by remote control.

I am a little further than last time and have no log error message anymore using folder premisions with system security manager. I now can read/write the logfile with my shutdown application. The UDP command is received (so no firewall issues) only the command for example: shutdown /s /f /t 0 is not executed.
First I tried disabling UAC but when I do this in windows 10 I still can not run my application as administrator.
Second I have tried system security manager setting unprotected and when i execute I
get a popup message with a blocking icon and SiteKiosk – For security reasons this action is not allow”
My question is how can i allow the shutdown command to be executed while maintaining system security protection

to clearify when i disable uac in windows 10 and go to basic -> applications -> run program under another useraccount the message is
"You cannot activate the function as long as UAC is activated! View help for more info

under help there is the message:
Note:
This option will not be available in Windows 7, 8, 10 if UAC (User Access Control) is enabled. Note: Win8 and higher does not allow to completely disable UAC.

that doesn't really explain how to fix

Hello,

As you posted your last request as bug report you can only access it after login:
https://www.provisio.com/en-US/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=25803
I have closed it now that you can always access it.

The System-Security-Manager that is installed with SiteKiosk needs to be started in a Windows user account with local admin rights while the SiteKiosk user is not logged in and SiteKiosk is not executed.

General notes:
The supported way to shut down the machine is using the maintenance settings in the SiteKiosk configuration (see: https://www.provisio.com/helpconsole/SiteKiosk%20Help/en-US/default.htm?maintenance.htm) or even a SiteRemote job if you want to do it remotely (SiteRemote: https://www.provisio.com/web/uk/products/kiosk-remote-management-siteremote Jobs: https://www.siteremote.net/help/en-US/05cajobs.aspx).

If you use the Windows shutdown.exe:
The shutdown.exe is blocked by default, when logged in to the SiteKiosk user account (as well as some other system exe files).

You can allow them by using the System-Security-Manager that is installed with SiteKiosk and you can find in the start menu of your admin account (SiteKiosk user must not be logged in when using the System-Security-Manager and SiteKiosk must not be executed).
E.g. choose Customized and then go to Programs.
Also see: https://www.provisio.com/helpconsole/SiteKiosk%20Help/en-US/default.htm?step_2_-_security_manager.htm

Here some further information about using external applications with SiteKiosk:

Hi Michael ,

Probably my mistake I was sure to submit a support request. Anyway and I expected to receive answer by mail and couldn’t find the answer to my question. I now found the setting Notify me when a response to one of my support cases is made
You written that SiteKiosk 9.7 is not supported anymore do you recommend a upgrade? We didn’t received that news and did update not that long time ago to 9.7 from a version i can’t remember but was running from early 2014. Does this require payment?
We only have two computers running SiteKiosk and we never have changed anything from 2014 except updating to 9.7 so SiteRemote remote management seems overkill for us and also the budget is limited.
The change is that now we use a different showcontrol to shutdown the pc’s we can’t use the old program that was working anymore
Yes the program uses shutdown.exe and yes I did disable this while enabling others and I tried using system security manager ‘deactivated’ then programs enable projection is off
It works using ‘start once’ but not on the autostart
it seems to only hang on the shutdown.exe now
Re: udp shutdown 4/22/2021 5:22 PM
the executable is written in the language python if needed i can private message you the code. It is really basic but enough for what we need to do

let me know how to PM you in case needed
Re: udp shutdown 4/22/2021 5:32 PM
I had written I had tried system security deactivated but I meant I used Unprotected

Then the popup message with a blocking icon and SiteKiosk – For security reasons this action is not allow” appears
