Description
Hi,

Is there something I can set in SiteKiosk to make it compatible with IE8, IE9 and IE10? The current SiteKiosk version that we have is giving us a lot of issues. I saw from some of the FAQs that we can set the emulation-view settings to some numbers. How do I know what number to set?

Thanks
Candy Yap

Hello,

You may first update to the most current version 8.7:
http://www.provisio.com/en-US/Downloads/Download.aspx?ItemId=1

SiteKiosk does use the Internet Explorer Webbrowser Control of the installed Internet Explorer version.

By default the compatibility view in the SiteKiosk configuration is set to “true” so that the SiteKiosk browser does use the IE mode of the installed IE Version.
IE8 = IE8 mode / IE9 = IE9 mode / IE10 = IE10 mode…

If necessary you can change this by editing the SiteKiosk configuration and set the compatibility view value to “false” or even set a certain compatibility view mode for the SiteKiosk Browser.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the reply. For the emulation-mode, there are quite a few available. How do I know whether to use 8000 or 8888 for IE8? Same for IE9 and IE10. Which emulation-mode should I be using?

Thanks

Hi Michael,

Here are some of the issues we are currently facing.

1. Broadcast issue where broadcast to some PCs got corrupted and there is no indication from Siteremote that the broadcast was corrupted.
2. Certain documents not being able to open in Win7.
3. Siteremote get disconnected.
4. Sitekiosk get corrupted resulting in Bulldog sign and hang there

Will you be able to tell us if these are because of browser compatibility issues? We are currently using the paid version for SiteKiosk.

Thanks
Candy Yap

Hello,

Generally you should leave the default setting (true) where the emulation mode for SiteKiosk will be set corresponding to the Internet Explorer version that is installed.´( IE8 = IE8 mode / IE9 = IE9 mode / IE10 = IE10 mode…).

Setting a special emulation mode is only necessary with certain web pages not running with another IE version.
Which on is needed you need to ask the developer or that web page or try out.

There are no known issues with SiteKiosk like you described except no 4 “Sitekiosk get corrupted resulting in Bulldog sign and hang there“.
This can happen on Windows 7 machines with IE10 while not using the latest SiteKiosk version.

Further information here:
http://www.provisio.com/en-US/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=19262

As you already use a SiteKiosk version 8.x you should update SiteKiosk to 8.7.1435:
http://www.provisio.com/en-US/Downloads/Download.aspx?ItemId=1

If you still got problems with opening documents and displaying broadcasts even using the latest SiteKiosk version please describe these issues a bit more detailed.
e.g. which documents do you have problems with and how is it reproducible. If it is about office documents you may also provide the information which Office version is installed.
For the broadcasts please provide the information which content you want to display.
If you e.g. want to display videos you also need to make sure that they can be played properly using the Windows Media Player on the target system.
