Support Request: https / SSL Search filter Google/YouTube

Description

Hello Support,

We have Sitekiosk 8.8 Build 1686 and we cannot filter/intercept any https or SSL search on search engines and YouTube. Does it filter on the newer version at all? or Do you have a update to filter SSL search?

It is very frustrating that the it is very hard to lock safe search on google and YouTube as it doesn't save the cookies properly, I have done everything I can do to keep the cookies by unselecting all the possible setting in Sitekiosk. I have added lots of words on Forbidden word list on "Surfing area" to block so many words as sitekiosk by default doesn't effectively block inappropriate words.

Hello,

For technical reasons the content filter cannot filter the https pages directly, as they are encrypted.

But you should check it with the current SiteKiosk version 8.9 as we did some changes to the content filter and SiteKiosk will check the page again after it is displayed in the browser.

If you want to block the search result on Google when containing inappropriate words you also need to disable the checkbox “Activate internal URL evaluation list” at “-->Content Filter-->Advanced” (Google is on the white list).
Otherwise you see the search result and the pages will be blocked when opening them.
Further information about these settings you will find in the SiteKiosk help:
http://www.provisio.com/helpconsole/SiteKiosk%20Help/en-US/default.htm?content_filter.htm
http://www.provisio.com/helpconsole/SiteKiosk%20Help/en-US/default.htm?advanced_settings1.htm

Additionally (or alternatively with SK 8.8) you also can use the Surfing Area to block any URL containing a certain keychain (inappropriate word).
Example:
Let’s say you want to block any URL containing the keychain “xyz”.
Create a new entry at “-->Surfing Area-->URLs/Paths” and choose the Protocol
*
.
Then add the URL
*xyz*
and activate “Denied” below “Access to this URL”.

About Cookies:
The SiteKiosk Browser does use the IE Webbrowser Control of the installed IE version and therefore the same temporary Internet files & cookie management.
The difference is that SiteKiosk will delete the temporary Internet files & cookies by default on Logout / Session End (-->SiteKiosk configuration-->Logout), when the screen saver activates (-->SiteKiosk Configuration-->Screensaver-->Advanced) and at midnight (-->SiteKiosk Configuration-->Maintenance).
