Support Request: problems burning cd's

Description

hi.

The CD burning function in File Manager works fine if the media is loaded in the drive before clicking Burn Now.

However, if the burnable media is not loaded before clicking Burn Now, nothing happens.

For example if the user has a non-burnable cd loaded, moves files from that cd to the burn folder, and then clicks Burn Now, SK will prompt to load a burnable cd, but never recognizes that burnable media has been loaded.....the window just never goes away. Or if the user loads the burnable media before clicking Burn Now, the drive spins up on loading, but absolutely nothing happens when the user clicks Burn Now.

I have the autoplay settings set to Take No Action for every possible circumstance. I did have a situation where the Windows 8 "How do you want to use this disc" dialog was coming up inaccessible behind the SK window, but with Take No Action set this prompt no longer appears.

In a situation where no disc switching is needed and all media is loaded before entering File Manager, for example if a user is burning files from a thumb drive to pre-loaded recordable media, everything works fine.

I need a person with practically no knowledge of computers to be able to burn files to CD easily and without assistance. Please tell me how to fix this.

Thanks

If you walk through this process outside of SiteKiosk in Windows will the blank media be identified correctly by Windows?

As SiteKiosk is just using the burning functionality of the Windows system you should check if burning CD-ROMs will work with using Windows burning. The dialogs will be similar when prompting for writable media.

You might also check
- If your CD-R drive has the recent driver software from Windows Update.
- Try burning different files to the CD to make sure the problem isn't with the files being burned
- Try different CD brands to see if another brand works

Thanks for getting back to me.

CD burning works fine outside of SK, in Windows. ALTHOUGH Windows CD burning is really not acceptable.....confuses users and doesn't support DVD burning.

How does SK work with third party CD/DVD burning software? Does the "Burn Now" button trigger the third party software, or would it just server to confuse the users and generate tech support calls?

Drivers for the cd burner are and were up to date.

Same problem regardless of content.

re: Try different CD brands: If the other tests work I doubt this has anything to do with the CD brand. This is not a leisurely project. People are waiting, impatiently, for these machines, and other important projects are stacking up behind it. My time is better spent at this point evaluating other software products than running to Staples in the middle of a work day to buy (some other brand of) CD-R's..

SiteKiosk is just using the burning functionality of the Windows system. That is why I am asking if the blank media is identified properly outside of SiteKiosk when requested by Windows. The feature in Windows that identifies whether a writable CD is present in the tray to begin burning is also used for SiteKiosk.

You can also use a third party application to burn the data to a cd but you will need to add that application to the list of allowed applications in SiteKiosk.
