Support Request: disable Screensaver

Description

Having finally got the screensaver to work.....EVERY SINGLE screensaver throws security and certificate errors, including SK.

We use SK to reduce helpdesk requests, not to generate new ones. If the screensaver does not work properly it must go, I don't have any more time to spend on this. (of course by the same token, if SK doesn't work properly.....)

I disabled the screensaver, according to an SK ticket, by setting screensaver=false in the config file.

Guess what, it sets itself back to true.

OK, tried setting the stupid thing to SK start page. Now it kicks in with a white page, nothing else.

Again, I don't have time for this and I can't have users calling me with these kinds of issues. HOW DO I TURN OFF THE SCREENSAVER?

Note: giving up on a feature in frustration is not my preferred method, but it seems every single feature of SK is like pulling teeth and I simply don't have any more time for these dumb issues.

Do you have the SiteKiosk configuration tool open when you edit the xml of the configuration file? That could cause the setting to be re-written. If you save the file and then open it again right after that is the setting still saved? I test this by editing the xml screensaver setting to false then opening the config in the editor and changing the browser skin. I then ran SiteKiosk. After closing SiteKiosk and checking the config the screensaver xml setting was still set to false.

Please provide the URLs which are giving you problems with certificate warnings and I will test them with SiteKiosk. What operating system and IE version are you testing with?

Thanks for getting back to me.

I believe you are right re: the config file resetting itself. I did a reboot after changing the file and the settings stuck.

Re: screensavers, problem is I'll set up a screensaver and it won't throw a cert error for a day or two, and it throws seemingly random security errors for no apparent reason whatsoever. If this machine was in the field it would be disastrous. I'm afraid i need to claim Lack Of Faith for SK at this point, disable the screen saver entirely, and reduce SK to it's absolute minimal functionality. If I put a kiosk machine out in the field and it starts throwing errors three days later it reflects very very badly on me.....to a bunch of people who's eyes glaze over when you try to talk technical details to them. Their reality is 1. They waited too long for it, and 2. It doesn't work. Tech Support two days later is of little help when you're under the bus......no thanks. I'll switch products before I'll take that hit, which is the most likely scenario at this point.
