Support Request: Open PDF using Chrome Skin

Description

Good Morning,
we have a problem using Chrome skin in sitekiosk.
When we try to click on a list of PDF files the file is always opened inside the browser using new tab.
We would like to open PDF using adobe reader, is this possible.
If not the other way should be to open PDF in a new browser window and not in a new tab.
We are in trouble, please hel us.
Kind Regards
Nicola Falcone

Hello,

The new Chrome Fullscreen Browser will open all web pages in the main window and there are now tabs or new windows available.

Therefore you should switch to another skin (e.g. the Metro IE Skin) and activate the permanent full screen mode at “-->Start Page & Browser-->Fullscreen”:
http://www.provisio.com/helpconsole/SiteKiosk%20Help/en-US/default.htm?fullscreen_mode.htm

If the web page providing the PDF link opens the PDF in a new window it will also happen in SiteKiosk.

Here a general FAQ about SiteKiosk and PDF (applies to the IE based skins):
http://www.provisio.com/en-US/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=18223

In case you want to open the PDF directly in Acrobat Reader you would need to take further configuration settings that I can explain if you still need them.

Hello,

To be clear:
With the Chrome Skin this is not possible but when using any of the other skins.
To have full screen display just enable the permanent full screen mode at “-->Start Page & Browser-->Fullscreen”:

Here the information about using the Adobe Reader Application with SiteKiosk’s IE based skins:
1. Deactivate the Adobe PDF Plug-in in IE
https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-in-browser.html

As this is a user dependent setting you also need to configure this within the SiteKiosk user account (when using the Auto Start mode the SiteKiosk Browser will be started within the SiteKiosk user account).
The information about how to obtain access here:
http://www.provisio.com/de-DE/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=5826

2. Activate Downloads and the File Manager in SiteKiosk (-->File Manager & Downloads).
Now the PDF files will be downloaded.

3. To open the PDF file by double clicking it within the File Manager you have to edit the “config.xml” file at “…\SiteKiosk\Skins\Public\Media\FileManager\XML”
- Remove “pdf” from this line
<extension types="html,htm,pdf,swf,txt,xml,m3u,mov">

- Like this
<extension types="html,htm,swf,txt,xml,m3u,mov">

- Then add “pdf” to this line:
<extension types="doc,docx,xls,xlsx,ppt,pptx,pps,ppsx,rtf,sxw,odt,dot,dotx,ods,sxc,odp,sxi,ott,stw,otp,sti" useregistry="true" />

- Like this:
<extension types="doc,docx,xls,xlsx,ppt,pptx,pps,ppsx,rtf,sxw,odt,dot,dotx,ods,sxc,odp,sxi,ott,stw,otp,sti,pdf" useregistry="true" />

Alternatively you can edit the “config.xml” and specify an application you want to open the PDF with.
More information you will find in the SiteKiosk help
http://www.provisio.com/en-US//helpconsole/SiteKiosk%20Help/en-US/default.htm?file_manager.htm
-->Linking and executing file types using third-party applications.

NOTE:
- Add the Acrobat Reader application to the SiteKiosk configuration (-->Applications) to make sure that it will be closed on session end.
- If running SiteKiosk in “Auto Start” mode the first time --> start the Acrobat Reader manually once (e.g. by using the start menu).
