Support Request: Screen blanking out after auto reboots and error when entering config

Description

We just upgraded to 8.91.3042 this week and when the system performs its daily reboot at 8am per the SiteKiosk maintenance schedule, the screen turns off within a few minutes even though nothing has changed with the display settings. Upon pressing the power button, it seems to come out of some sort of sleep mode, shows our start page that is configured within sitekiosk, then within a few seconds goes back into a sleep mode, we hit the power button again and it wakes up for the day. In the sitekiosk maintenance config we set it to turn off the monitors after 5pm each night. This is happening on both of our systems where we upgraded sitekiosk this past week.

Addtionally, we receive an error stating that the configurator is already running when trying to enter into sitekiosk config now and we cannot proceed any further. Per the error, we are to look for duplicate instances of the config in Task Manager and it appears it is launching two instances. I have completely uninstalled/reinstalled sitekiosk twice per tech support via Add/Remove select Change, then check the checkbox to remove the Additional files. We still have not had any success. At this point, the only way I can get into config is to edit the file in notepad.

Any suggestions for either issue? I could try to revert to an older version if this one is known not to be stable maybe?

This is not a known issue with the current version of SiteKiosk. What is the operating system and IE version? Does the same thing happen in Start Once as in Autostart mode? The only sleep/wake and monitor on/off settings controlled by SiteKiosk are in the SiteKiosk configuration tool under >Basic >Maintenance. Regarding the configuration editor issue, what happens if you just close one instance? Sometimes it can take a moment of the config tool to load. As a test, just try to open the config tool and give it a moment to see if it does eventually load in this case as an extra step to trouble shoot your issue.

Both of our systems are running Windows 8.1 with IE 11. The sleep mode (screen blanking) does not seem to happen in Start Once or Autostart mode as far as I can tell, only when it is set to reboot in the Maintenance schedule. With regards to the configuration editor, when I do an End Task on one instance, the second instance goes away immediately. At this point, once the error regarding the duplicate instances appears, it does not go any further after clicking 'OK' on the error dialog. Is it possible that our config file is corrupt or does that not impact the initial loading of the config editor? Reason I ask is that our config file was upgraded from a previous version of SiteKiosk and wondered if I should blow it away and build a new one from scratch.

While this is being researched, I would like to modify the skcfg file since I cannot get the configuration editor to work. I am interested in modifying the <shutdown-list><shutdown-entry><action> option. What are the available options for the <action>? Guessing 0=reboot and 2=turn off monitors since that is what I have in there now for my maintenance. I would like to try something other than the 0 and knowing all of the other available actions will help. Thank you, Dan

You might also check your BIOS settings regarding a sleep/wake feature. Try setting a schedule to turn the monitor back on in SiteKiosk an hour before the scheduled reboot.

We have not had any other reports of a similar issue with the configuration tool. You could try reverting to an older version. Please note that Windows 8.1 is only supported with SiteKiosk 8.8 and higher.

Ok, I can check the BIOS. It seemed to work ok before with no changes to BIOS etc, but it is worth a look. I am also looking to get the <action> values that I can use in the shutdown-list when I edit the skcfg file via notepad. Do you have the list of possible options available?
