Support Request: Embedded YouTube video not playing within SiteKiosk v8

Description

I posted this as a comment to issue 'No Video Playing when connected to a YouTube Site (black screen)', but I wasn't sure if it would be seen by support. If so, I apologize for the double post.

I have an issue with embedded YouTube videos displaying only a black screen. YouTube videos display correctly within individual browsers (IE, Chrome) outside of SiteKiosk, but they do not display video within SiteKiosk during either One-Time run or Auto Start.

I am currently running:

Windows 8.1 64bit
IE 11.0.9600
SK v8.91.3042

YouTube videos are embedded in a page on my website (http://flbs.umt.edu/videos). I am launching my page from within a SiteKiosk start page, with a button link specifying that address as an http URL. The YouTube video shows the initial video preview image, but all video is black after hitting play. I am allowing all websites in the browsing area, currently. Hulu and Vimeo videos play correctly.

Can you duplicate this issue? Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Do the videos play as expected in SiteKiosk when you start the software in Start Once mode and not AutoStart mode? If so, You may check to see if the issue is related to Windows User Account dependent settings.

To make any necessary changes to the SiteKiosk Restricted User Account, you must first remove the restrictions on the account using the System Security Manager. Remember that all changes made through the System Security Manager only affect the settings to the Limited User Account. To remove the restrictions, follow the instructions below:

1. Log on to the terminal as the administrator
2. Select Start > All Programs > SiteKiosk > System Security Manager
3. In the System Security Quick Start screen, select ‘Unprotected’ and click the ‘OK’ button
4. The next screen will ask you to “Do you want to apply the changes now?”, click the “yes” button
5. It will go through the setting changes (which may take a few minutes), then will state that it is “Finished – Please click OK”, and click the “OK” button
6. On the ‘Settings Changed Successfully’ window, it select the “Exit Wizard” option and click “OK”
7. Select Start > Log Off Administrator
8. Log on to the terminal as SiteKiosk Restricted User. Default login information are Username: SiteKiosk, Password: provisio (the password is case-sensitive)
9. Now check that the website and videos works as expected in the Windows Environment. Change the settings and/or test the device in the Windows environment to make sure that it is working. Note: Since you turned off the security settings to this account, you now have full access to the machine and are now able to perform previously blocked tasks, such as right click, access the control panel, access folders and drives, etc
10. Once you have made any necessary changes, log out of the limited user account and log back into the administer account.
11. Repeat Steps 1-5, except change the selection of “Unprotected” to “Protected” in Step 3.
12. Run the SiteKiosk software and test the changes that you made to the Restricted User Account.

No, the videos play the same in Start Once mode and in AutoStart mode.

In spite of this, I enabled Unprotected mode. It made no difference (still only a black screen) in how YouTube videos play.

Are you mable to replicate this issue on another computer with the most current version of SiteKiosk installed?

I tested this with SiteKiosk 8.91.3042 and was not able to replicate the issue. If you refresh the page using the refresh button on the browser tool bar does the video play? Maybe it is a caching issue on the machine. If so, try to resolve the issue by changing the following setting in IE outside of SiteKiosk. Open IE and go to >Tools >Internet Options then under Browsing History click the Settings button. Check the radio button labeled "Every time I visit the web page". Save the changes and test in SiteKiosk in Start Once mode.

No, I am not able to replicate. YouTube ran correctly on a Windows 8.1 laptop with SK .3042. I changed IE as you indicated to check on caching, and this had no effect.

I have noticed that when I remotely connect to the kiosk and start Run-Once mode, videos do play correctly. This leads me to question whether this is a problem with the video driver. Why would YouTube videos play correctly from a remote location in Run-Once mode, but display only a black screen when run locally in Run-Once mode?
