Support Request: Sitekiosk installation issues

Description

We have been trying to install Sitekiosk on two Windows 10 computers (recently reimaged, nothing else installed yet). We run the installation with the command "sitekiosk.exe/V"DEFAULTPASSWD=*****"" and the installer runs well until we get an error message saying that a restricted account could not be created and that we should run the "systemsecurity.exe/install" command. We used this command and ran into another error saying that a sitekiosk account had already been created and we should run "systemsecurity.exe/install [user:sitekiosk [password:****]]" (I do not remember the exact line, but we copied it from the error message) and after running this third command, the installer would not even start. We tried running the command in different ways but we could not get the installer to start.

We looked up possible fixes in the forums and the only fix we could find was deleting everything and starting over, so we followed these steps:

1. Check that SiteKiosk is removed from the Windows software menu (-->Control Panel-->Add remove programs)

2. Delete the SiteKiosk services by using the Windows command “sc delete” (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/251192) at the command line (cmd.exe).
- sc delete skpcdsvc
- sc delete “SiteRemote Client”
- sc delete sitekioskconfig

3. Delete the SiteKiosk user account at (-->Control Panel-->User Accounts)

4. Delete the folder “SiteKiosk" at "…\Program Files (x86)" (32Bit "C:\Program Files\...") and "C:\Users\..." (Windows Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 8)

5. Delete the registry entry "PROVISIO" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node" (32 Bit "HKLM-->Software") with using regedit.

6. Restart the system.

After doing all that to make sure there was no trace of the program in the system, we ran the installer again only to get the same error messages. We are doing this in two computers with nothing else installed on them. We have deleted and re-downloaded the latest version from the website, moved the installer to the desktop, tried with different command lines with no luck and we are out of ideas.

Windows 10 is fully tested and supported with SiteKiosk 9.6. The issue must apply to something that is configured in that image (e.g. Group or Domain Policies) that blocks the installer creating the SiteKiosk user account. In general, make sure that there is no user with the name SiteKiosk before you install SiteKiosk and that the Windows user you execute the SiteKiosk installer with has FULL local admin rights.
