Support Request: Administrative privilege

Description

How does SiteKiosk determine which applications need to be launched as "Administrator" and which as a regular user? I have two applications defined for the start button: "Skype for Business" and "On-Screen Keyboard". The Skype application launches and runs fine when selected. The on-screen keyboard always asks for the administrator (WRucker) account's password. I have a button defined on the desktop for both applications and they both launch there without prompting for and administrative password. How do I get the application to launch from the start button without prompting for an administrative account's credentials? I tried putting the target application (osk.exe) inside the "C:\Program Files (x86)\SiteKiosk\HTML" but the same results happen: launches fine from button, prompts for administrative credentials via the start button.

This does not apply to SiteKiosk but to the (OSK) application and the Windows system. SiteKiosk doesn’t block the usage of the Windows OSK but we also do not provide any support for using it. We only provide support for the usage of the on-screen keyboard in SiteKiosk.

I understand you do not support Microsoft's OSK, but your virtual keyboard does not provide Function key support! My question is more generic because I'm sure you don't support Skype, Word, Powerpoint, Thunderbird, etc. either.

What I'm asking is why does an application launched from a button (big square button) work without asking for administrative credentials, but the exact same application defined on the start button prompt for administrative credentials?

Starting an application from the Start SCreen start page and from the taskbar start button use a slightly different procedure. There is not a way to edit that.

Please note that if you are looking for the function keys to make a more complex key combination, you can also use a prepared USB stick to automatically enter your key combo and password for you. You can find those options under the Registration button in the siteKiosk configuration editor.

I have applications that require Function keys. For a simplistic example, in Word, pressing F1 starts help. There are other applications that require different Function keys as well that we'll be adding to the configuration.

I still do not understand why I have "Skype for Business" square button & start button and neither pushing either button doesn't prompt for administrative credentials. I have OSK defined in a similar way, square button and start button, and yet when I click that one on the start button it prompts for credentials but the square button does not. If the behavior were consistent, shouldn't the "Skype for Business" button when clicked from the start button prompt for credentials as well, yet it doesn't. Therefore I would expect the OSK button to never prompt for credentials since the Skype buttons do not.

It is possible to either edit an existing onscreen keyboard or create a new one (see https://www.provisio.com/helpconsole/SiteKiosk%20Help/en-US/default.htm?keyboard_layout.htm) or you can also send your paid customization request to sales-america(at)provisio.com.
