SiteKiosk: Bug Fix for critical error
On kiosk machines with SiteKiosk versions earlier than 8.7 under Windows 7, the system will in most cases become unusable after Internet Explorer 10 is installed. The affected SiteKiosk versions are 7.1 - 8.6. Any Windows 7 computers that have automatic updates enabled will be affected because Internet Explorer 10 is installed automatically as part of Windows updates.

All software resellers are strongly encouraged to forward this information to the operators of the kiosks. PROVISIO has no information about the end user and therefore cannot directly inform them!

Description
We intermittently get script errors on the page when clicking on a link that uses the standard "javascript:print()" function. We've been dealing with this for sometime now. It's been reasonably acceptable since our kiosk is in house, but we now have another kiosk in another location where we have no control over how to deal with this error.

Is there some problem with using standard JavaScript functions in SiteKiosk version 7? Do they conflict with the SiteKiosk scripting model?

Please let me know if I need to use another technique to print from a link without any dialog boxes appearing.

Thank you.

Your javascript will not be affected by Object Model scripting. As SiteKiosk uses the MS Webbrowser control this usually applies to IE. You should test your site using the IE with debugging enabled to further troubleshoot your issue.

Where are you seeing this error message? What is the message in the dialog box you mentioned? Is this a print dialog or error dialog? How is the error affecting usage?

After someone clicks the 'print' link with the "javascript::print()" function.

> What is the message in the dialog box you mentioned?

Sorry, I don't have the exact error message, but its a 'script error' dialog window that pops up.

> Is this a print dialog or error dialog?

Script error dialog window

> How is the error affecting usage?

The user is asked to click the print link so a receipt may be printed for their credit card transaction (this does not use SiteKiosk Credit Card apps). The error dialog pops up and there is no receipt printed.

From your description, it sounds like you may have script debugging enabled in Internet Explorer. You can disable script debugging in IE under Tools > Internet Options > Advanced then under Browsing check the boxes labeled "Disable script debugging". This setting is user account dependent and will need to be changed for the SiteKiosk user in autostart. See below for instructions on changing settings in the SiteKiosk user account.

Please note that this IE setting is user dependent:
