Support Request: SiteKiosk browser denied access

Description

Hello,
at new version of SiteKiosk 2.9.8080 and browser engine Crosswalk (Chrome version 53) I am not able to open a web side www.kartageco.cz (https).
I receive a answer - "request was denied for security" (but certificate is valid). If I use a browser engine Android system webview (chrome version 44) the main page can be open but it freezes on repeating question popup window (check user age) so I can´t acceess this web side too. do you have any solotion plaease? If I try a older verison of SikeKiosk (2.5. 252 - Chromium 44) there is no problem and everything works fine.
Thank you
Honza

Hello,

SiteKiosk has no separate certificate store and just uses the certificate store from Android.
Therefore you may fist install all Android updates that are available for your device.

I could not reproduce the freeze but also got a cert warning with “The certificate authority is not trusted” when using https://www.kartageco.cz/ in SiteKisok with using the WebView (tested it on an Android 5 device with Chrome 69),
To avoid a cert warning dialog you can add the URL to “Excluded URLs” at “-->Application-->Browser/Fullscreen Browser-->White List for Certificates”.
Then check if it works with the Android System WebView on your device.

Note:
Crosswalk is no longer being maintained (https://crosswalk-project.org/blog/crosswalk-final-release.html) and therefore we have no plans on further integration. Crosswalk is also not supported in Android 7 or higher.

WebView story:
By default the Site Kiosk Browser on Android does use the so-called WebView Framework http://developer.android.com/guide/webapps/webview.html that is based on the pre-installed browser of Android.
So the result with “Standard Browser” in SiteKiosk depends on the Android version with the integrated system browser.

These are the browser engine versions used by WebView on Android:
- pre Android 4.4 -->uses the WebKit Engine (Updates with operating system)
- Android 4.4 --> Chromium Engine 30/33 (Updates with operating system)
- Android 5+ --> Chromium Engine 36+ (Updates via Play Store - Android System Webview)
- Android 7+ --> Chromium Engine 51+ (Updates via Play Store - Chrome)

Hello Michael,
the problem won't be on the certificate side.
I've tried add a web side to the whitelist, of course, but this removes certificate verification information only.

The problem will be in SiteKiosk apk v 2.9.8080. If I run a standalone browser at device (Chrome 62) outside of SiteKiosk, it works correctly. Similarly, if I install an older version of SiteKiosk (2.5.252) on my device it wokrs fine. All the higher versions SiteKiosk show the same bug over all my Android (4.4,4.4.2,6.0..)

If you use the Android webview system with fullscreenbrowser setting in your test environment, can you continue to web side after confirming "ANO" or does the popup window still show you?

I cant use higher version of Android on my device and you have written system requirements: Android 4.4 (KitKat), 5.x (Lollipop), 6.x (Marshmallow), 7.x (Nougat), 8.x (Oreo) and that is fulfilled and Sitekiosk should works.

I will consult it with the creator of web side www.kartageco.cz too, but do you have any other solotuion for this problem?

Thank you very much
Honza

Hello,

First I need to reproduce the behavior you described and clarify if it is a Bug in SiteKiosk or applies to the Android system.
>>>If you use the Android webview system with fullscreenbrowser setting in your test environment, can you continue to web side after confirming "ANO" or does the popup window still show you?<<<
On my test device with Android 5 and SiteKiosk 2.9.8080 there was no problem and I was able to continue with using the web page after confirming "ANO" in the popup (it did display again).

Did you also check this with using the “Android System WebView” in Fullscreen Browser (not Crosswalk)?
If yes and the problem still occurred, please send your SiteKiosk configuration to support-europe(at)provisio.com that we again can try to reproduce it.

The SiteKiosk configuration can be downloaded though SiteRemote or you can export the configuration at “-->System” in the SiteKiosk Android configuration settings.

Please also provide the information which Android Version is installed, which device you use (model, manufacturer), and a step by step description to reproduce the problem.

General note:
On Android devices the performance and stability depends heavily on the Android operating system the vendor installed on the device.
A lot of vendors make individual changes to the Android operating system they put on their devices.
These changes can have a big impact on performance and stability, especially if the devices are in the low price range.
The best test results with SiteKiosk Android we generally have with Tablet devices making fewer changes to the original Android system from Google.

Hello,

you may also check if it works on your device after resetting the SiteKiosk Android configration settings (-->System-->Reset SiteKiosk settings) and then directly start SiteKiosk.
