Support Request: Sitekiosk Android Info

Description

Goodmorning,

I have two questions regarding Sitekiosk for Android.

- After installing SiteKiosk on Android and activating the license, in order to enable the VNC remote viewer, we have to root the device; as per business and customer policy it's not compliant, for security reason, to root the device. So, I was asking if there are other ways for having remote access to the device.

- Does Sitekiosk Android works only on tablet? Does it check the screen dimension for compatibility or other parameters?

Thanks in advance,
Luca

Hello,

For the general remote maintenance via SiteRemote you don’t need to root the Android device but just register it to a team that you created at https://www.siteremote.net.
Also see: https://www.provisio.com/helpconsole/SiteKiosk%20Android%20Quick%20Start%20Guide/en-US/default.htm?remote_monitoring.htm
Here a feature overview for SiteRemote: https://www.provisio.com/web/uk/products/kiosk-remote-management-siteremote

But if you also want to use the remote desktop feature that is integrated to SiteRemote with Android devices the device must be rooted (because of Android restrictions; Windows doesn’t require any special system settings for using the RDP feature).

Generally SiteKiosk is designed to be used with and tested on Tablet devices:
https://www.provisio.com/helpconsole/SiteKiosk%20Android%20Quick%20Start%20Guide/en-US/default.htm?001-system1.htm

But you also can check if SiteKiosk works on any Android device you want to use. It will generally use the screen dimension that is available with the system (it just must not be too small; on a smart phone e.g. it does not work).

Also note: On Android devices the performance and stability depends heavily on the Android operating system the vendor installed on the device.
A lot of vendors make individual changes to the Android operating system they put on their devices.
These changes can have a big impact on performance and stability, especially if the devices are in the low price range.
The best test results with SiteKiosk Android we generally have with Tablet devices making fewer changes to the original Android system from Google.

You can test everything with your hardware before purchasing any license:
