Support Request: Start Screen Customize Freezing

Description

I have a bare bones Windows 10 32bit system. It is a fresh install or the O/S and no other software has been installed other than hardware drivers.

I downloaded SiteKiosk to try it out because it seems like exactly what I am looking for. After installation, I can surf the internet without problems.

However, I want a custom Start Screen (and the reason I want this software) but whenever I go to customize the start screen, it works for anywhere between 30 seconds to a minute and then the mouse and the keyboard freeze. After that, I can not longer operate the system at all and I have to force the computer to turn off.

This is NOT random. It happens everytime I try to customize the Start Screen using the editor.

My system is a Dell Optiplex 9020 I5 3.2GHZ
4 GB memory
Windows 10 Pro

The only error text file I could find is saying "Failed to load c++ bson extension......."

If there are other error logs, I will be happy to post them.

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. Currently, there are no known issues with SiteKiosk or Start Screen that would cause the Windows OS to lock up and freeze. There may be another factor not related to SiteKiosk involved with the behavior you are experiencing. Could you test what would happen if you run SiteKiosk, Start Once with Start Screen - Template 2 (if unused by you)? If the chosen Start Screen does not display or your computer lockup/freezes again, then you may try to look for external sources of the problem.

Just to clarify, SiteKiosk runs perfectly fine on 32 bit and on 64 bit default Windows 10 installations, both tested. If your computer is a member of your organization's domain, there may be group policies affecting your installation and a thorough investigation will be need on your environment (conducted by your team). Usually we advise that SiteKiosk machines be placed in their own OU with as much basic/default policies as possible.

Otherwise, you can check:
- Antivirus/anti-malware settings
- Firewall settings exception to localhost port 8889
- Windows Event Viewer logs
- Hardware or OS issues

Or try:
-Back up your work - Important folder locations: Configuration - C:\Program Files (x86)\SiteKiosk\Config (*.skcfg files), Start Screen - C:\Users\Public\SiteKiosk\content (the entire folder) and Media Content - C:\Program Files (x86)\SiteKiosk\Html (images, videos, html folders, PDFs etc.)
- Reinstalling SiteKiosk
-Reinstall Windows 10.

If the issue still persists, you can send a copy of these files to support-america(at)provisio.com referencing this post:
-Unmanipulated(files added through non-Start Screen methods) and zipped Start Screen folder- C:\Users\Public\SiteKiosk\content (the entire folder)
-Configuration - C:\Program Files (x86)\SiteKiosk\Config (*.skcfg files)
-Log files - C:\Program Files (x86)\SiteKiosk\Logfiles (yyyy-mm-dd.txt files)
- SiteKioskNG.log - C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Temp (generates when SiteKiosk runs.)
-Windows Event Viewer logs.

Best regards,
Andre.
