Support Request: Starting with another application (not a web browser)

Hi there,

I have recently installed a trial version of your software on Vista. I would like to be able to have another application (i.e. a flash application) to be my start page and not be run inside a browser. In other words, we have developed a standalone flash application and would like to run that as the first page when SiteKioske starts and not the web browser. When I try to do this, it tries to launch the flash application inside the browser, which is not what I want. The flash application does not start inside the browser either.

I have attached my configuration file your reference.

How can I achieve this?

when using Flash in the SiteKiosk browser it is recommended to always embed the .swf Flash file in an html page and to not use a Flash executable (.exe).

Instead of an executable tche .swf file can be included in an html page and shown in the browser without much work to be invested in the proper configuration, e.g. as start page or screen saver page.

A sample about how to embed a flash file in a html you will find here:

Thanks for your reply. Due to the nature of our flash application, we have to start it in a desktop mode and NOT in a web browser. So there would be no way to have a desktop flash application to start the session when windws is rebooted using your configuration file? It is not convenient to modify the registry for every single deployment. We are going to have huge volumes of software deployed at any point in time, and it would be a nightmare trying to modify the registry file for every single machine.

I would only like to have the standalone flash desktop application to launch upon startup and not the browser.

Can you suggest an alternative using your config file?

another Possibility would be to start an application via script after SiteKiosk has been started.

Use the following script as an example:

evtid = SiteKiosk.Scheduler.AddDelayedEvent(3000, start);

function start()
SiteKiosk.ExternalApps.Run("c:/windows/notepad.exe", false);

Store the script file (e.g. "myscript.js") into the folder...\Program Files\SiteKiosk\Html\..
Then you have to open the SiteKiosk configuration and go to
-->Browser-->Browser Design-->Advanced

Activate the option "SiteKiosk will execute the following script file on startup" and choose your script from the path ...\Program Files\SiteKiosk\Html\.

Then this script does execute Notepad 2 seconds after SiteKiosk has been started.
The time span you can adjust by editing the corresponding value (3000, start).

Please NOTE:
1. Please consider that the SiteKiosk user has no access and execute privileges to all folders. Therefore you should store your application in a subfolder of ...\Program Files\.
2. This script intends to be an EXAMPLE script. Please understand that our free support cannot offer you any support with creating your own code.
