FAQ: Questions about EMP coin acceptor

Description

If you are experiencing problems using or installing the EMP coin acceptor, maybe these hints will offer a solution:

In general:
- The USB model of the EMP requires at least SiteKiosk 6.2.51.

- Also, make sure to use the COM300 driver available on our Web site when using the USB model of the EMP coin acceptor. (this driver will also work with Windows Vista)

If you have already installed a different driver, boot your Windows system into safe mode and uninstall the driver using the device manager. (it is important to do so to make sure that all driver files will be deleted)
After uninstalling the driver, reboot (by restarting Windows normally) and install the COM300 driver as described in the installation instructions provided by EMP.

If the coin acceptor is still not working properly despite a seemingly correct installation:

1. When the EMP is detected (-->Payment devices-->wh emp800-->Configure-->Detect), a notification about an unknown coin acceptor configuration pops up.

Download the current coin acceptor configuration from our Web site.
http://www.provisio.com/en-US/Downloads/Default.aspx?GroupId=8#ID147
(Please note that SiteKiosk versions 6.6 or higher require a different file than the versions prior to SiteKiosk 6.6.)

If your coin acceptor is still not detected properly, save the Dump.ini file you can create in this dialog box.
Proceed by sending the file (…\SiteKiosk\Dump.ini) to us so that we can adjust the empconf.ini and make it work for you.
If possible, submit the configuration of your coin acceptor as well.
You will find this information on the silver nameplate attached on the side of your EMP.

The contact information you need is contained in the displayed dialog box as well as here:
http://www.provisio.com/en-US/Company/Contact.aspx

2. While the EMP configuration is detected (without a notification about an unknown configuration), the device is still not accepting any money.

In all likelihood, your EMP does not have a SiteKiosk ID.

To verify this, check the SiteKiosk logfile for the following entry:
”[EMP800] Could not validate EMP customer-id.“

In this case, please send us your SiteKiosk configuration as well as the current logfile.
You will find the configuration file under …\SiteKiosk\Config (*.skcfg) and the logfiles under …\SiteKiosk\Logfiles.

The contact information you need is contained in the displayed dialog box as well as here:
http://www.provisio.com/en-US/Company/Contact.aspx

3. When the EMP is detected (-->Payment devices-->wh emp800-->Configure-->Detect), the notification “MDB adapter not found” pops up or “[EMP800] OpenMDB failed” appears in the SiteKiosk logfile.

This error message indicates that the MDB interface of the coin acceptor was not found.
This may point to an improperly installed coin acceptor (USB driver) or indicate that the coin acceptor was not connected properly. Another possibility is that you selected a virtual COM port higher than COM port 8 (“USB to Serial” in device manager), as SiteKiosk assumes that the coin acceptor is connected to one of the ports between COM port 1 and COM port 8.
Finally, a hardware defect cannot be ruled out entirely in this case.

Check your installation and the COM port for the driver used in the Windows Device Manager once again (“USB to Serial”).
In any case, use the COM300 driver we are providing on our Web site. This driver will also work with Windows Vista.
For the installation instructions of the EMP 800 / 850 with USB interface, go to: http://www.provisio.com/Download/brochures/inst_usb_coin.pdf

You can test if your EMP functions properly without running SiteKiosk by using the WinMDB Tester provided by whBerlin. What this means is that you can use this tool to check if the hardware has been properly integrated in case your coin acceptor does not work properly with SiteKiosk.

You will find the WinMDB Tester in our Download section under tools:
http://www.provisio.com/en-US/Downloads/Default.aspx?GroupId=7#ID24

For instructions on WinMDB Tester, go to:

Other possible error causes:
- Check if something got stuck in the mechanics of the coin acceptor or if there is any dirt on the sensors of the EMP800.
- Check which error messages appear in the SiteKiosk logfiles in the event of an error.
- If the coin acceptor is connected via a USB extension, we recommend that you connect the coin acceptor with an additional power supply unit to prevent any problems with the power supply.
