Support Request: Software upgrade failed

Description

I have to say, that I am not impressed with your installer...

I had SiteKiosk 8 installed and when I was doing some routine maintenance on it, I was notified that there was an update. So I downloaded it and ran the update. This is where it hits the fan.

Your software didn't update the current version, it ran a fresh install over the top of what I had already. Well being this is a domain computer, your "default password" is so weak that it didn't meet our minimum requirements so the install failed and "rolled" back the install. Except that since it was doing a complete install over the top of the old version, it uninstalled SiteKiosk almost completely. I say almost because it DID NOT remove the keyboard lock so now I can't log into that computer while sitting at it. My only option is to RDP into it and try to fix your software that way.

I was able to get the install past the weak default password that is incorporated into you installer.

However, now I get an error: "User logon failed. Restricted user was not created. Run SYSTEMSECURITY /INSTALL again. Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer."

I need the complete CMD line install structure for an install on a Domain computer with the default password switch and the switches to fix the logon failed error above.

Do you get this error when you run SiteKiosk? How are you starting SiteKiosk? Are you using the green Autostart button? What is the command line that you used to install?

SiteKiosk no longer shows as installed since the updated FAILED and rolled back.

Running the installer from the command line "sitekiosk8.exe /s /qn /V"DEFAULTPASSWD=**************""'
extra quotes are not part of cmd line used. and password not shown.

Running the installer like that is when I get the logon failed error.

It sounds like the autostart settings for SiteKiosk may still be in place after your installation rolled back. The message you are getting normally would be thrown if you try to boot into normal Autostart mode but the Windows SiteKiosk user does not exist. Please delete the services and registry entries for SiteKiosk and proceed with the command line you are currently using. Please also confirm that the Windows SiteKiosk user account does not exist in the Windows control panel user account management.

1. Delete the SiteKiosk services by using the Windows command “sc delete” (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/251192) at the command line (cmd.exe).
- sc delete skpcdsvc
- sc delete “SiteRemote Client”
- sc delete sitekioskconfig

2. Delete the registry entry "PROVISIO" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node" (32 Bit "HKLM-->Software") with using regedit.
Re: Software upgrade failed 1/6/2015 8:08 PM
Did all that. restarted computer. verified that no Provisio services are installed.

ran this from an elevated CMD prompt
sitekiosk8.exe /V"DEFAULTPASSWD=**************"

And I still get this error:
"User logon failed. Restricted user was not created. Run SYSTEMSECURITY /INSTALL again. Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer."

What is the value of the following registry key? If it is set to "1", change it to "0" then try to run the install again.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon -> AutoAdminLogon
