Support Request: Autostart takes a long time to load the kiosk

Description

Whenever we set SiteKiosk to autostart with the sitekiosk user it takes up to 30 minutes for it to load into the main start page. When it goes to screen saver (blank white screen, not the screen saver we have set) it again takes up to 30 minutes to return to the main screen. When running site kiosk manually logged in as the same user it opens in seconds and returns from the screen saver in seconds (the custom screen saver we have set although the screen saver only flashes on the screen for 1 second before returning to the main screen).

Machine is Dell Optiplex 9020, 8GB RAM, Core i5 running Windows 8.1 Pro

What im asking for is:

1: Why is it taking so long to load? We want this to auto load at start up and return from screen saver within seconds like it does with the manual start
2: Why is the screen saver only lasting for a second on manual start before returning to the start screen and showing a white screen when auto started? We want our custom screen saver (a photo gallery) to be displayed to customers until they touch the screen.

If you need any more information please let me know and it will be provided.

The difference between Start Once and Autostart is the Windows account that SiteKiosk runs under. In Autostart SiteKiosk runs under a Windows account that was created during installation with user name SiteKiosk. You can log in to this account manually in Windows with user name "SiteKiosk" and password "provisio" without the quotes to see if there is any issue with Windows under that account. Before doing that open the SiteKiosk System Security Manager and set it to "Unprotected". It is possible to use a domain user or a Windows user that you create for Autostart instead of the Windows account that is created during installation.

Where did you store you screensaver images?

We are using a domain account not the local account that is created during installation. This is a requirement from our security team in order for them to manage the account better. When logged in as that account and manually starting the kiosk it opens in seconds but when sitekiosk automatically logs in and launches the application, under the same domain account it takes up to half an hour to load.

The screensaver images are located in "C:\Program Files (x86)\SiteKiosk\Screensaver Images" but has been tested in "C:\Temp" and "C:\Users\%username%\Pictures\Screensaver" and is the same result.

I have just tried to auto run with the domain user account in unprotected mode with a load time of 3 minutes. Screensaver loaded after 5 minutes of inactivity and deactivated a second later according to the logs but the screen was just white, no loaded image. It did not return to the main screen for a further 7 minutes as shown in these logs

Just tried something, group policy handling the auto login but the SiteKiosk startup xml handling the launch of SiteKiosk (change the startup xml to <AutoLogon>false</AutoLogon> and <UIAutoLogon>false</UIAutoLogon>). SiteKiosk launches in under 20 seconds which is fine as that will only happen first thing in the morning and now when a user is at the screen. The screensaver is still only displayed for a split second before going to a white screen for 25 minutes (I was moving the mouse for almost all of that period)

Regarding you screensaver issue, is this issue occurring on more than one machine? What are you using as your start page? Do you have internet access on the machine? If so, what happens if you set google.com as you start page? Can you replicate the issue in Start Once mode while logged in as a local administrator. Please note that SiteKiosk System Security Manager will not affect your domain account.

"is this issue occurring on more than one machine?" - Yes, all three test machines

"What are you using as your start page?" - The browser design 'Start Screen' customised with some buttons that open direct links to a website. We don't have a 'start page' as such.

"Do you have internet access on the machine?" - Yes

"If so, what happens if you set google.com as you start page?" - Refer to above answer, we dont have a 'start page' as such we are using the 'Start Screen' as our default start location. Each button on that screen opens a different link on a website. Making one of those buttons open Google.com loads Google.

"Can you replicate the issue in Start Once mode while logged in as a local administrator" - When run as a local account it displays the screensaver with 'No images are located in Libraries\My Pictures'.
