Support Request: Start Screen

Description

After extensive customization of the Site Kiosk custom Start Screen page using the Start Screen Editor, multiple testing, tweaking and saving config file, I installed SK 9 on new machine, loaded the new config file and all local folders with custom icons, only to find that none of the skin edits carry over in the config. When trying to edit the config, I only get the 3 original standard templates. Do I need to redesign the start screen page with every install, or is there a step I am missing?

Answer: (3)

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. For the "Start Screen", you also need to copy the folder "content" at "C:\Users\Public\SiteKiosk" to the new machine. When you are saving your "Start Screen" templates, the location is provided in the notice before clicking OK.

Here are other important folder locations:
Configuration - C:\Program Files (x86)\SiteKiosk\Config (*.skcfg files)
Media Content - C:\Program Files (x86)\SiteKiosk\Html (images, videos, html folders, PDFs etc.)

Best regards,
Andre.

that level of detail regarding specific folder was not provided in the pop up screen and appreciated.
I have saved config file and other creative elements to a new folder at C:/SK since each machine we install on will have a different user path. Is this not recommended for any reason?

Hello,

Sorry about that and thank you for asking. The version of reference is currently version 9.7 build 5232. In terms of folder locations, we recommend that users place their SiteKiosk configuration and media/web files in those folders in the program directory because it ensures SiteKiosk has access to those files as well as being automatically protected by default Windows permissions. They are also safe to be placed there even when using SiteKiosk with the Restricted user account or with another domain/local account.

Best regards,
Andre.
