Description

We are currently running 9.6.4216, but are looking to upgrade to the latest version. Does any of the latest versions provide support for Microsoft Edge?

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. The latest SK version still supports the IE Webbrowser Control and also provides the Chrome Browser Skin that uses a Chromium CEF engine installed with SiteKiosk.(v9.6 has a Chrome Browser skin but it will need to be updated with a new SiteKiosk version - see notes in https://www.provisio.com/en-US/Downloads/VersionHistory.aspx )

We are not opposed to the idea but our stance has not changed since this post: https://www.provisio.com/en-US/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=25424

Best regards,
Andre.

Good afternoon,
I am inquiring about any update to Provisio's plan to begin integrating the Chromium Edge browser into SiteKiosk. The end of support of IE has been announced by Microsoft for the Office365 platform as well as new technologies like HTML5 that are not supported in IE. Both of these technology changes are a part of our business now and if SiteKiosk is not updated to support them we will have to find another solution.
Is there a timeline set to integrate Chromium Edge into SiteKiosk?
Your original response in 5/12/2020's article states that "The real problem is that the Chromium based Edge Browser is currently not an integral part of the Windows 10 OS and so it is not fully distributed on all Windows systems." However, our business has fully deployed and moving toward Chromium Edge in our environment.

Thank you for your response in advance.

Hi Dan,

Thank you for following up. SiteKiosk already has Chromium built-in. To be specific, we use Chromium CEF and it is updated with a new release of SiteKiosk. You will have the same browser experience as using MS Edge, Google Chrome, etc, except for plugin usage.

Our last statement was regarding the scenario of integrating with Microsoft Edge as replacement for IE and also instead of using our built-in Chromium.

You can switch your browser engine in >Basic>Start Page and Browser>Browser Engine. You will need to customize your browser preferences at the Customize(Chrome Browser) feature as the IE settings will not carry over.

The last Chromium update was:
- SiteKiosk 9.8 build 5779
- Release 3/30/2021
- Chromium engine 89.0.4389.90
- You can find more version release notes at https://www.provisio.com/en-US/Downloads/VersionHistory.aspx

Please feel free to test your site with SiteKiosk (Chrome Browser) to confirm it is to your specifications.

Best regards,
Andre.
