Support Request: For security reasons this action is not allowed

Description

I'm trying to set up SK to allow access to three apps, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Windows Media Player. Users are able to open and user Google Chrome, but if they try to open Internet Explorer or Windows Media Player they get "For security reasons this action is not allowed". Both apps open if I run Test from the SK config interface. UAC is off. I'm testing with an Unprotected config in Security Manager.

Why can't users run these apps?

My config is attached.

THANKS

This error occurs anytime something is downloaded and downloads are not allowed or a blocked window is opened. In your case it is the latter. Other browser aside from SiteKiosk are not recommended since it would be possible using the browsers settings to make the computer unusable. The SiteKiosk browser is the only supported browser to use in the SiteKiosk environment. If you still want to allow blocked windows you can do so by deleting the security settings related to those windows. In the SiteKiosk configuration tool under >Basic >Access/Security click the Settings button next to "Block system critical windows & dialog boxes". You can delete the entries that are affecting you. To find the exact entry, you will need to check the SiteKiosk log file for the windows title and/or class that is being blocked. Use that information to delete the setting that is blocking those windows but please note that it may make it possible for a malicious user to make the computer/browser unusable.

Hi.

This response does not answer for my inability to open Windows Media Player in SK.

I'm not married to Windows Media Player, just need to be able to play videos in SK. Other posts have mentioned SK Player.....but this appears to be a screensaver?

I have done the following:
Deleted "Windows Media Player" and "WMP Skin Host" from the configuration tool.
Allowed Windows Media Player under Apps.
Unchecked "Restrict 'Windows Media Player'" in the System Security Manager.

Still getting the same error, Unauthorized Function.

Can somebody please give me a straightforward for playing media as the restricted user in SiteKiosk?

Thanks again.

How are you opening the file? Did you add it as a link on one of the start page templates? If so you need to allow downloads since this would be the same as adding it to a webpage. Activate the File Manager and check the box to allow downloads. If you do not see the title and class info in the log file per the previous post then the error is occurring because downloads are not allowed.

After you resolve that issue video files will use the built in player in the file manager. I recommend using the built in player. If you want to use another player like Windows Media Player you also need edit the File Manager config file.

The file is located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\SiteKiosk\Skins\Public\Media\FileManager\XML\Config.xml".

Open the file in Notepad and search for "avi" without the quotes. You will see a long list of video file extensions. Cut and copy that list of extension. Search for "doc" without the quotes. Paste the list of video file extensions in before doc. Make sure everything is separated by a comma. This list will just open the file in its default application in Windows.
